Msty Nexus 0.4.1: Portable Presets, Safer Routes, and Clearer App Control
Running Nexus across multiple providers, local runtimes, and connected apps can make model behavior harder to keep consistent, especially when each one handles settings, routes, and supported controls differently.
Msty Nexus 0.4.1 handles more of that complexity by expanding presets, improving Smart Routes, making app updates clearer, keeping the app available after the window closes, hiding unsupported built-in MLX controls, and improving release packaging.
Across these changes, we focused on reducing avoidable interruptions while keeping control easy to understand, with reusable settings, better routing decisions, visible update choices, and sensitive provider details protected inside Nexus.
Presets Make Model Settings More Portable
Presets now include thinking effort, reasoning visibility, prompt caching, and advanced provider options. We expanded them so the same model behavior can be reused across connected apps without rebuilding the same setup each time.
Thinking effort moves from Off to Maximum within a preset, with Nexus translating that choice for the provider or local model handling the request, so complex requests can use deeper reasoning without applying that same weight to routine work.

Advanced provider options keep detailed settings such as lists, grouped choices, numbers, and true or false values. Nexus applies only the options meant for the provider handling the request, which helps one preset stay useful across different providers and local models.
Preset data also keeps sensitive information out of reusable settings by blocking credential-like entries, while unsupported options are reported clearly and skipped before they can cause the request to fail.
Prompt Caching Reduces Repeated Work
Sending the same system instructions or background material again and again can add unnecessary work to repeated requests.
For supported Anthropic models, Nexus uses presets to keep eligible content available for five minutes or one hour, while leaving any cache instructions already sent by an app unchanged.
OpenAI continues to manage this automatically, and providers that do not support the setting are reported clearly so it does not appear active where it cannot be applied.
Smart Routes Match Models to Requests
A model that works for image generation cannot always handle chat, even when it is available. Smart Routes check compatibility before forwarding a request, keeping chat with chat-capable models, image generation with image-generation models, and other supported request types matched to models that can handle them.
When the routing choice is unavailable, invalid, or points to a model that cannot handle the request, Nexus falls back to a compatible option without changing what the app asked for.
Smart Routes can select a suitable model without turning chat into image generation, leaving that control with the app so routing stays easier to understand and avoids preventable failures.
App Updates Stay Visible and Controlled
Msty Nexus now reports when a newer version is available, showing the notice in the main interface and in Settings while sending a system notification only once per release.
Selecting the update opens the download link in your system browser, while Nexus keeps the install decision in your control and uses a secure source for production release information.
App updates stay separate from local runtime updates, making it clearer whether Nexus itself or a managed runtime needs attention.
Everyday Nexus Workflows Get More Refined
This release also improves everyday Nexus workflows across window behavior, platform controls, and release builds.
- Closing the main window keeps Nexus available from the system tray or macOS menu bar, with background connections continuing until you choose Quit
- Built-in MLX controls stay hidden on Windows and Linux, where the Nexus-managed MLX runtime is not supported
- macOS behavior remains unchanged
- Externally configured compatible providers continue to work as expected
- Release packaging now builds shared interface components first, so clean builds no longer depend on files from earlier development work
